Recovery from Addiction through Awakening

Feb 27, 2016 | Loch Kelly

Recovering from addiction requires an awakening which amounts to a complete psychic change. Initial meditation practices of calm-abiding and mindfulness are helpful. However, full recovery invites us to awaken out of the driver of addiction, the small separate sense of self. Hitting bottom with an addiction often provides the motivation to surrender and shift into your already awake Buddha nature. This awakening is more possible than you might believe. Through the approach of “small glimpses many times,” we can discover an effortless mindfulness that takes us out of the self-centered addictive cycle. We can then live more from our open-hearted true nature.

This session is from Worldwide Insight’s Healing & Insight series which ran in 2016. This series explored the sharp end of suffering – including addiction in its broadest sense, depression, physical and mental pain, and stress – through the lens of the Buddhist teachings.
